Primary Suspect In The Murder of DCI Detective In Kayole Arrested

The primary suspect in the murder of DCI detective has been arrested. The incident revolves around the unfortunate murder of Constable David Mayaka, who, on August 10th, was fatally shot by a trio of armed robbers while he was changing a flat tire in the company of his wife in Kayole, Nairobi County.

Surveillance footage unveiled the chilling sequence of events, showing the assailants riding on a motorcylce, abruptly opening fire, and inflicting gunshot wounds to Mayaka’s abdomen. His wife, Hellen Kemunto, also suffered a gunshot wound to her leg during the attack.

According to a statement released by the DCI on Tuesday, Alex Wanjiru, 23, was located and arrested at his grandmother’s residence in Ruthingiti, Kiambu County, where he had been hiding. The motorcycle used in his escape was seized by authorities.

The DCI’s account narrates that immediately after purportedly committing the crime, Wanjiru fled Kayole. His arrest is a result from a collaborative effort between the specialized detectives of the Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau stationed at the DCI Nairobi regional command.

Furthermore, the motorbike utilized as a gateway in the tragic incident had previously been confiscated during an earlier investigation.

“This is after conducting thorough forensic investigations that placed the suspect and his accomplices at the scene of the scene of the crime, at the exact time of the murder,” he said.

The DCI additionally emphasized that a ballistic analysis has now established a connection between the firearm used in the crime and five separate robbery cases within the city.

Meanwhile, an ongoing intensified search is in progress for the remaining two suspects who remain evasive and have yet to be arrested.

“So far, detectives have also identified the two other thugs involved in the murder most foul. They are the main suspect Henry Njihia who fired the shots that took detective Mayaka’s life and John Kamau aka Faruk, who is also armed with a glock pistol.”
